In November 2007, Janet Bell and her husband Sean made the move from a tiny little village just outside Chester to the Isle of Anglesey and Janet Bell Gallery opened it's doors for the first time on Victorian Evening in The Forum in the pretty town of Beaumaris.
What started out initially as just Janet's studio where she painted and sold a couple of her originals, prints and cards, has since grown into the gallery she dreamed of owning.
There was never any masterplan, it just developed naturally following fantastic customer response. It was quickly realised that people seemed to like her style of painting the beautiful Island she now proudly called home. Little by little the studio turned into a gallery and it slowly started stocking other items that complimented Janet's own art work.
Janet has been a professional artist since 2004 but previously worked for several boutiques, galleries and design-led stores including Habitat. The gallery had a strong concept and only stocks items that Janet and Sean would have in their own home, from handmade artists and designers that they loved; whether it's a card that they would send, a pair of earrings Janet would wear or a painting that would adorn their wall.
It all came together as a beautiful and quirky mix of unique products that appealed to all ages and guaranteed a smile.
The gallery doubled it's space during the Summer of 2009 after relocating to an old bank on Beaumaris's busy Castle Street - a stone's throw away from Beaumaris castle and one road back from the sea.
On the eighth anniversary of opening our first gallery, a second gallery opened on Wall Street, just around the corner from the first shop in Beaumaris. Janet Bell Gallery features all of Janet's work including originals and prints, and runs side-by-side with Janet Bell Home, for more information and to see the work, please visit the website.
Janet Bell Home relocated to an even larger premises on Church Street in Beaumaris.
Janet Bell Gallery and Janet Bell Home have now been combined to one extended store on Church Street in Beaumaris. The store on Wall Street moved into the big shop so everything is now on one site. We have ten members of staff and are busy all year round - finding new, exciting designers, working on our own in-house range and keeping our busy two websites up to date, holding events and workshops - and of course welcoming and helping our new and loyal customers.
The business has won three Anglesey Tourism Awards for Best Arts and Crafts on Anglesey and works closely with the community by organising events and bringing high profile attractions to the town.
